We spent 5 nights in Lucerne. During the stay, we did a day trip to Mount Pilatus. The common tourist route up the mountain is called the “Golden round trip” – this involves a boat ride from Lucerne to a small town called Alpnachstad. From there, its onto a train that takes you to the summit of the mountain. This “railway” because of the incline – is a cog railway and is said to be the steepest in the world. The decent is taken in 2 stages, the first being a large aerial cableway down to Fräkmüntegg. We then change to a much smaller gondola for the remainder of the trip down to Kriens. We timed the weather well and picked the only sunny day of our stay in Lucerne to do this
