By chance, we had arrived at Stonehenge at a very significant time – the eve of the Summer Solstice. We nearly bypassed this site as reviews from friends did not bode well. I’m glad we didn’t – a newly opened Visitors Centre had transformed the area very much for the better. The stones had been transformed back into a place of peace and tranquility. The centre was being closed early and preparations begun to welcome an anticipated crowd of 35,000 coming to see in the longest day of the year.
